Tell us a bit about A Heart At Sea.
A Heart at Sea is a collaboration between visual artist Peter Morton and musician Avi Simmons, both highly skilled in their area of expertise. These two elements of visuals and music, are married together into a breath-taking spectacle. The live music tells the story and sweeps the audience through haunting soundscapes.
Accompanying this are intricate puppets that roam on an unique, beautifully carved chest that creates transforming wooden worlds as a Boy journeys to recover his missing heart. The piece was conceived Apr 2016 and since has been touring earlier this year, and was nominated for Les Enfants Terribles' LET AWARD. This intimate show has received fantastic feedback from audiences up and down the country and has been creating special, truly shared experiences for families.

And the music is original?
Yes, the music is written and performed by Avi Simmons. The songs tell the story of a Boy who bottles up his heart and throws it into the sea. These are performed live onstage and are looped and mixed to create the haunting soundscapes. Even the audience get involved in creating some of these live so every show is different. We are producing a CD of the show that will be available at the fringe.
Who is it aimed at?
A Heart at Sea is a show designed for families! It can be enjoyed by adults and children alike - written in a way that children can understand the storyline, and appreciate the beautiful visuals whilst adults will engage with the intricacy and design of the performance while being captivated by the beauty of the music and empathy with the characters. We recommend for ages 7+.

What sets it apart from other children's shows at the Fringe?
A Heart at Sea brings together stunning puppets and sets and beautiful live music to create a show that is a unique heartwarming experience. Our transforming set all contained in a complex wooden chest will be something that has not been experienced before and will wow our audience and has been described as "solid magic". The songs and music have a depth transporting the children into the story and keeping them encapsulated throughout.

And what's in it for the adults?
This is not just a show for children. We have performed the show to audiences full of adults and have received fantastic feedback. The story is heartfelt, sad and up-lifting. They will empathise with our protagonist and be swept away in the intricacy of the puppets and transforming set. A Heart at Sea is a shared experience for the whole family.
