After becoming disenchanted with her responsible grown-up jobs (well, that and being fired) Juliette Burton decided to take a look at what she wanted to be as a child and make it happen.

From a princess to a baker and an artist, Juliette is easy to relate to and hugely likeable. If I wasn't already completely invested in the show (which I was) then her childhood dream of being a Muppet would have absolutely done the trick.

Although the show is generally lighthearted, it was the more serious tone later on that absolutely made it for me. Managing to avoid any kind of cheese, Juliette makes her show inspirational by telling what feels like a very personal story.

Relying heavily on an interactive slideshow was a bit shaky at the beginning due to technical hiccups but once it got going it was absolutely worth the effort. The nature of her storytelling really does require evidence; for example, video footage of her taking a beginners' ballet class and wandering around Tescos while dressed as a princess.

I feel as though the particularly touching part of this routine is something that shouldn't be spoiled for you - so I won't. All I can do is strongly suggest going to see this brilliant show.

When I Grow Up is on at the Gilded Balloon until August 26th. Timings and ticket information here.
