On Saturday 12 August at 10am, 100 bargain tickets go on sale at the Citizens Theatre for the first show of the Autumn 2017 season - the epic theatrical event, Oresteia: This Restless House.

100 tickets across the three preview performances of the play on 15, 16 and 17 August will be available, and the only way to grab these bargain tickets is in person at the theatre. Customers will be able to buy a maximum of two tickets per person which must be paid for in cash. The Box Office opens at 10am but with availability strictly limited, and the bargain ticket offer more popular than ever, customers are advised to join the queue early to avoid disappointment. This is the perfect opportunity for audiences to catch the show before it is presented at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Oresteia: This Restless House is a powerful and thrilling reimagining of Aeschylus' The Oresteia by award-winning writer Zinnie Harris about three women who are forced to confront the consequences of their acts of violence.

Premiered at the Citizens Theatre in 2016 as a trilogy of plays, and now presented as one epic theatrical event, Harris' compelling new work was nominated for 'Best New Play' at the UK Theatre Awards in 2016, and was awarded Best New Play and Best Director at the 2016 Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland. When first performed the production won critical acclaim, lauded as 'a production of depth, ambition and creepy power' (The Guardian) and 'trail-blazing' (The Scotsman). Director, Dominic Hill describes the play as "an epic theatre event which takes its audience on a wild, disturbing but always gripping journey that ultimately leads to forgiveness and reconciliation"

Almost 3,000 50p tickets have been sold since Dominic Hill revived the 50p ticket offer in his first season at the Citizens Theatre in 2012. The offer honours the Citizens Theatre's historic reputation for offering world-class theatre at affordable prices. 50p tickets were first offered at the Citizens in 1976 when the theatre was under the leadership of Giles Havergal, Phillip Prowse and Robert David McDonald; renowned in the 70s and 80s for their innovative productions. This innovative approach also encompassed a bold pricing structure with the belief that theatre should be accessible to all regardless of financial circumstance.

Following the previews at the Citizens Theatre, Oresteia: This Restless House will play at the Edinburgh International Festival from 22 -27 Aug for a limited run of six performances, returning to the Citizens from 31 Aug - 9 Sep.
