Based on the much loved 1997 film, The Full Monty is the story of a group of unemployed men in Sheffield who decide to make some fast cash from stripping. These guys are not really your typical strippers - but that's their selling point.

A talented cast is led by Gary Lucy who is excellent in his role as Gaz, a father trying to raise maintenance payments in order to keep seeing his son, Nathan (the performer alternates, but the boy on tonight was absolutely brilliant and received one of the biggest cheers of the night).

Although I enjoyed the film and have seen it a few times, I didn't expect to love this play quite as much as I did. The crowd were lively to say the least but this actually led to a great atmosphere and the heckles were (for once) well timed and appropriate. The play is a lot funnier than I remembered or expected and there were laugh-out-loud moments throughout. The set is also fantastic and allows for very smooth scene changes.

I'm disappointed that the West End run of The Full Monty was cut short as I thought this was an excellent piece of theatre. One element that I really enjoyed was watching people get excited as they remembered classic scenes from the film just before they were coming up - for example the dancing in line at the job centre. While this can probably be billed as a "fun girls' night out" it is also a very well acted and well written piece of theatre.

The Full Monty is on tour around the UK.
