The bar is set pretty high for the first national tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night- Time. Based on the much loved best selling novel the play adaptation has received countless five-star reviews, seven Olivier awards in the West End and five Tony awards for its run on Broadway.

When Christopher finds his neighbour's dog dead in the garden, he decides to do some detective work to find out who killed the dog. Although it is never stated explicitly, Christopher has Asperger Syndrome and his mind works in a much more literal fashion than most. Part of the appeal of the novel from which this play is adapted is the way it is written in Christopher's own unique style and this has been transferred beautifully to the stage.

The entire cast are fantastic but Joshua Jenkins is outstanding as Christopher Boone. His delivery of the fast paced and often complicated script is faultless and his mannerisms are very effective.

The set design for this play is unlike anything I have ever seen. The entire stage is utilised and while everything looks simple enough, there are loads of hidden elements to the set and it really is a spectacle. The sound and lighting are also used for incredible effects. The scenes where Christopher is on the London Underground are made so realistic simply through the use of sound and light.

The reviews and the awards are more than justified for this production. I would strongly advise anyone who has the chance to see it to do so!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is on tour around the UK.
