Now Playing Onstage in Santa Barbara - Week of 6/29/2014 JOAN BAEZ & INDIGO GIRLS
Santa Barbara Bowl
7/2-7/2/2014
Legendary artist Joan Baez will co-headline with Indigo Girls at The Santa Barbara Bowl on July 2nd . The joint performance will feature material spanning both artists' vast catalogs. Joan Baez has been as busy as ever in the five years since she celebrated the landmark years of 2008-2009, the 50th anniversaries of her legendary residency in 1958 at the famed Club 47 in Cambridge, and her subsequent debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival. In addition to multiple tours of the US and abroad, the recent past has included the induction of Joan's 1960 debut Vanguard LP by the National Recording Academy into the Grammy® Hall Of Fame and the presentation to her of the inaugural Joan Baez Award for Outstanding Inspirational Service in the Global Fight for Human Rights at Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary gathering in 2012. On their fourteenth studio album, Grammy-winning folk-rock duo Indigo Girls deliver a beautifully crafted batch of songs that revel in spirited simplicity. Alternating richly textured storytelling with moody ruminations on modern-world worries, Beauty Queen Sister (released October 4, 2011 on IG Recordings) reveals a fierce longing for a more idyllic existence while still celebrating the extraordinary in everyday living. Thanks to its graceful mix of openhearted songwriting and lush, intricate arrangements - not to mention powerful performances by the band and their brigade of guest musicians - Beauty Queen Sister ultimately allows the listener to slip into the sort of dreamy serenity that Amy Ray and Emily Saliers sing of striving for throughout the record. With twelve original studio albums, three live records, various Greatest Hits compilations, a Rarities and a Christmas record to their credit, the iconic duo continues to challenge itself creatively, over and over again, adding to a body of work that contains such contemporary classic songs as "Galileo," "Shame on You," "Closer To Fine," "Kid Fears," "Love of Our Lives," "Making Promises," "Get out the Map," "Moment of Forgiveness," "Least Complicated" and "Go". After numerous Grammy nominations and awards and gold and platinum certifications and decades of touring in clubs, arenas and everything in between, Indigo Girls remain active and relevant, always viewing their music as a fresh opportunity for exploration and discovery.

Now Playing Onstage in Santa Barbara - Week of 6/29/2014 BOB WEIR & RATDOG
Santa Barbara Bowl
7/3-7/3/2014
Bob Weir & RatDog will play the Santa Barbara Bowl on Thursday, July 3rd with very special guest The Chris Robinson Brotherhood. With a touring history that has made him one of the most traveled road musicians of all time and a restless music personality that has kept him occupied for over 50 years, Weir knows a thing or two about staying fresh and living in the moment. Although best known as one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead, adding Dead staples such as "Truckin'," "Sugar Magnolia," and "Cassidy" to the band's catalog, Weir obtained a long and affluent music career that has allowed him to do what he loves and share it with others for nearly his entire life. RatDog has undergone many changes, both in personnel and musical approach. The band has evolved from a blues revue into a musical fusion of backgrounds and talents; complex, energetic and adventurous. The members are no longer a supporting cast for frontman Weir but a full force powerhouse, capable of taking music fans to new and mystical places every night. Now composed of original members Weir and Lane (percussion, vocals) and Rob Wasserman (bass), in addition to Jeff Chimenti (keyboards, vocals), Steve Kimock (guitars) and Robin Sylvester (bass, vocals), RatDog has truly come into its own. The RatDog experience delights and exhilarates and as Bob says, "If you like what you hear, do come again." And the fans are always more than happy to accommodate. On April 29th, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood returns from gathering the ineffable with Phosphorescent Harvest, their third long playing album for Silver Arrow Records. Having first unshackled the air with Big Moon Ritual (June 2012) and the Magic Door (September 2012), the band -Robinson (Lead vocals, guitar), Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Adam Macdougall (keys, vocals), George Sluppick (drums), and Mark Dutton (bass, vocals) -will open for Bob Weir & RatDog at Santa Barbara Bowl for an unforgettable night.
