Flynn Spirit Productions presents John Patrick Shanley's "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" at the Phoenix Theatre in San Francisco, tonight, April 9 - May 3

San Francisco. March 17, 2015. Flynn Spirit Productions will stage John Patrick Shanley's "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" at the Phoenix Theatre, 414 Mason Street in San Francisco, April 9-May 3, 2015. The production is directed by Estelle Piper and features Paul Ulloa and Kimberley Roberts. "Danny" is written by John Patrick Shanley, the author of "Doubt" and "Moonstruck."

The Story: Set in a rundown bar in the Bronx, two of society's rejects, Danny, a brooding, self-loathing young man who resorts more to violence than reason, and Roberta, a divorced, guilt-ridden young woman whose troubled teenage son is now being cared for by her parents, strike up a conversation over a beer. Danny, whose fellow truck drivers call "the beast," seems incapable of tender emotion, while Roberta, who is still haunted by the memory of an ugly sexual incident involving a family member, is distrustful of men in general. As their initial reserve begins to melt, they decide to spend the night together, which each hopes will bring the possibility of a genuine and meaningful relationship.
