Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill, a revue celebrating the life and work of Kurt Weill, opens August 22 at Masquers Playhouse in Point Richmond. It is a remarkable musical voyage through the career of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Weill's musical masterpieces are presented in a glorious blend of song and story that takes us from the terror of Hitler's Germany to the glamour of the golden age of the Great White Way. From The New York Times: "Weill holds a solid place in the pantheon of 20th-century composers...a harbinger of today's boundary-crossing musicians. A genius." The show includes many of Weill's most famous and beloved compositions, "Speak Low," "Mack the Knife," "Saga of Jenny," "Surabaya Johnny," and many more. The cast includes Nick Hengl, Tina Marzell, Jenny Mateucci, Maria Mikheyenko, J. Scott Stewart, Gayelan Tietje-Ulrich. Directed by Ellen Brooks, Musical direction by Bruce Haines.

Performances are Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 7 pm with Sunday Matinees at 2:00 pm on August 31, September 7 and September 14. The show plays through September 20. Tickets are $22 and all seats are general admission. Tickets can be purchased on line at www.masquers.org or by calling (510) 232-4031. The playhouse is located off of Highway 580 (Richmond Parkway exit) at 105 Park Place, Point Richmond across from the Hotel Mac.
