National Choreographers Initiative 2017

Molly Lynch, Artistic Director

Be there for the birth of four new ballets created as part of the intensive 3-week process of the National Choreographers Initiative. Artistic Director, Molly Lynch invites four choreographers, as well as sixteen professional dancers from ballet companies across the country, to participate.

NCI is a southern California project with national influence. Over the past twelve years, NCI has brought 48 different choreographers to California to develop new works. Many of the pieces begun here have gone on to be performed elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. The project culminates in a public performance that showcases the excitement of new creation.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, The Woman in Black), Joshua McGuire (The Hour) and David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Witness for the Prosecution) star in Tom Stoppard's brilliantly funny situation comedy.

David Leveaux's new production marks the 50th anniversary of the play that made a young Tom Stoppard's name overnight.

Against the backdrop of Hamlet, two hapless minor characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, take centre stage. As the young double act stumble their way in and out of the action of Shakespeare's iconic drama, they become increasingly out of their depth as their version of the story unfolds.

Widely recognized as "the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele," Jake Shimabukuro has become a one-man army advancing the ukulele cause, turning the four-string axe into a flexible musical vehicle, capable of generating everything from crunching, effects-laden rock to sensuously swinging jazz. He coaxes an impossibly big sound out of this little instrument, playing an intoxicating mix of pop tunes, American Songbook standards and lilting originals.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play is one of America's defining pieces of art from the past twenty-five years. Written in two parts, each part is able stand alone as a singular work of art. However, in combination, they have become a masterpiece of a generation.

America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell.

Andrew Garfield (Silence, Hacksaw Ridge) plays Prior Walter along with a cast including Denise Gough (People, Places and Things), Nathan Lane (The Producers), James McArdle(Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Russell Tovey (The Pass).

This new staging of Tony Kushner's multi-award-winning two-part play is directed by Olivier and Tony award-winning director Marianne Elliott (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse).

USAF Airmen of Note

The Airmen of Note honors the bravery, sacrifice and dedication of our veterans.

Created in 1950 to carry on the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces dance band, the "Note" features 18 of the most talented jazz musicians in the country today and is one of the last touring big bands. As a result, it has earned an international reputation as one of the finest and most versatile big bands of its kind in the world.

Tickets are Free. Reservation is required.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago: 40th Anniversary Tour

First presented by the Barclay nearly 27 years ago under the auspices of its founding artistic director, Lou Conte, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has become one of America's most influential contemporary dance companies. The company is known now for its eclectic, international repertory and for its impeccable dancers.

In celebration of the company's 40th anniversary, Glenn Edgerton, the current artistic director and company visionary, will curate a special program including works from choreographers such as William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Nacho Duato and Alejandro Cerrudo.

When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A riot of magic, music and make-believe ensues.

A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson (NT Live: Jane Eyre) directs this wondrously inventive production, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic theatre.
