The award winning San Diego Musical Theatre announces its 2010-2011 of Broadway musicals, which includes SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, THE STORY OF MY LIFE, and A CHORUS LINE. There is four hours of free parking at Horton Plaza with the purchase of tickets.

SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE will be presented from September 24th to October 10th. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll, and now their songs provide the basis for an electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE harnesses the power of the music that changed the world in a raucous night of musical theatre. SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE isn’t just great pop music, it’s compelling musical theatre that won seven Tony Award nominations. Ron Kellum, Director of SDMT’s award winning production of Dreamgirls, will be the Director and Choreographer of SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE.

The San Diego Premiere THE STORY OF MY LIFE will be from January 21, 2011 to February 6th. With a book by Brian Hill and music and lyrics by Neil Bartram, THE STORY OF MY LIFE tells the story of two childhood friends and how their friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for 30 years. But time can test the bonds of friendship, and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has – his stories of Alvin – to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical, THE STORY OF MY LIFE is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever. 4 Drama Desk Awards nominations for outstanding music, lyrics, book, and musical. Nick DeGruccio, Director of SDMT’s award winning production of THE FULL MONTY, will be the Director for THE STORY OF MY LIFE.

A CHORUS LINE runs from May 27th to June 12th. It was conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett with a book by James Kirkwood & Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by Edward Kleban. A CHORUS LINE is a stunning musical-verite about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. It tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show, and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration. Memorable musical numbers include "I Can Do That," "What I Did for Love," "One (Singular Sensation)" and "I Hope I Get It." It is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. The show was instantly recognized as a classic. It was honored with 9 Tony Awards, 5 Drama Desk Awards, and Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Kay Cole, who originated the role of Maggie in A CHORUS LINE on Broadway, will be the Director and Choreographer of the multi-award winning A CHORUS LINE.
