This summer, dreams really do come true and the passion of young love is alive at Coronado Playhouse with two classic love stories that have very different endings.

The musical version of the romantic fairy tale, SLEEPING BEAUTY or The Famous Rose Taboo, book and lyrics by Barbara Fried and music by Norman Sachs, opens the Summer of Love series with a limited run June 12th -June 22nd for young audiences and families.

William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, continues the Summer of Love and is our 18th annual FREE Classics production made possible by a grant from the City of Coronado. The timeless love story runs June 27th-July 20th and is a fast paced, modern interpretation of the feud between Capulets and Montagues. Audiences will experience Shakespeare's original text in a contemporary setting with the lovelorn Romeo and Juliet and their families dressed in current day attire as the bittersweet tragedy unfolds on the streets of what could be any major city in the world. There is open seating at each performance and limited free tickets with reservations available for patrons.

During both productions, Coronado Playhouse, the Community's Theatre, is raising awareness and money to benefit the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The House was specifically designed to provide a home away from home for families with hospitalized children - including 47 bedrooms, hot meals and a children's play area for siblings - so families can focus their attention on supporting their sick or injured child instead of worrying about day-to-day needs. Every year, more than 1,500 families are helped and the need for overnight services far exceeds its 47-room capacity. For more information on programs, visit www.rmhcsd.org.

Coronado Playhouse is one collection spot for the Ronald McDonald House's annual Red Shoe Day event Thursday June 26th from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., during which supporters can drop cash donations in iconic, big red shoes. We will also fill the shoe with donations throughout the run of Romeo and Juliet.
