The 2014 Best New Artist winner, surfer, singer/songwriter and teen heartthrob, Cody Lovaas, will stroke the heartstrings of many high school students with a live performance and assembly to promote Performing Arts in schools, and discuss his "Natural High" or alternative to drug and alcohol abuse by doing what he loves - music! This assembly, presented as part of the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation's Arts in Education Initiative, will take place at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 AM. Sponsored by Taylor Guitars and Natural High, Cody Lovaas will share his love of music and improving the world with fellow teens in our community.

A native of San Diego, Carlsbad resident Cody Lovaas has quickly become a household name to many teens and music lovers in the nation. At the young age of 16, Lovaas has been signed by the same management company (Bill Silva) as his idol, Jason Mraz, after performing for Mraz at an open mic in a coffee house in Oceanside. Writing songs of the vast ocean and contentment in the present moment, Cody exudes a maturity that seemed refreshing to Bill Silva Management, thus making him the agency's youngest client.

With a surfboard and guitar in hand, Cody Lovaas spends time each day singing, practicing the guitar and ukulele, and writing songs. The release of his first CD included nine original songs, all of which were written solely by Lovaas. Influenced by artists such as Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Jack Johnson, Lovaas seamlessly combines his love for music and surf into fluid blues-imbued acoustic compilations. While still so young, Lovaas is on the track to following his dreams. "To me, being successful would just mean being happy and enjoying myself." Cody is most passionate about three things in life: music, surfing and the desire to make a difference in the world.

Recognized as the "youngest ambassador" for many non-profit foundations, Cody Lovaas truly cares about making a difference in this world, utilizing what he loves best - music. "My dream is to improve the world as I travel through music. For me, it starts in our community with one note and one person." Lovaas works with many national organizations and foundations to help spread awareness on world issues and work towards making the nation a better place.

One foundation in particular, Natural High, is a 501(c)3 drug abuse prevention organization that helps youth discover, amplify and pursue their natural high so that they have a reason to say no to an artificial high. An ambassador of Natural High, Cody Lovaas firmly supports the mission of this organization and has been meeting with his peers to discuss doing what you love to do and reaching for your dreams while living on a "natural high." While meeting with Cody Lovaas at this assembly, Poway High students also get to enjoy a live performance and photo opportunities after the show!

Sponsored by Taylor Guitars and representing Natural High, Cody Lovaas will be performing and speaking to Poway High School students next week, inspiring them to live to their fullest potential and do what they love. Discussing the importance and benefit of the Performing Arts in schools, Lovaas is an advocate for the arts in education. The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation is proud to provide the young people of our community with the presentation and performance of Cody Lovaas in hopes that his story will encourage students to pursue their dreams, live a healthy life and strive to make a difference in the world.

The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation is a 24 year old non-profit organization that offers professional performing arts events, including concerts, dance performances, theater productions, and a children's theatre series. The Foundation operates through a special partnership with the City of Poway and the Poway Unified School District.
