A Starry Night At The McCallum! The Desert Symphony Celebrates Their 28th With Grammy Winner LeAnn Rimes

The Desert Symphony, under the direction of Music Director Gary Berkson, is celebrating its 28th Anniversary with a Gala and Concert starring the incomparable LeAnn Rimes. The event will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2017, 8pm at The McCallum Theatre. In addition, the Desert Symphony will be honoring Ruta Lee, whose career has included both stage and screen, with the Amadeus Award for her philanthropy and dedication to the Performing Arts. She is the first woman to receive this prestigious award and joins the ranks of Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, John Tesh, Jack Jones, Ted Giatas, and last year's recipient Harold Matzner.

The star of the Gala, LeAnn Rimes, has sold more than 37 million albums, won two Grammy Awards, three Academy of Country Music Awards, and 12 Billboard Music Awards. Rimes is the youngest recipient of a Grammy Award, and was also the first country recording artist to win in the "Best New Artist" category. Rimes has placed 42 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 13 of which are top-10 hits, and has scored numerous hit singles in her career, including "Can't Fight the Moonlight," which went #1 in 11 countries, and "How Do I Live," which is the second longest charting song ever on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Rimes' performance with The Desert Symphony will feature some of her award-winning hits including "Blue," "Nothing Better to Do," "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way," "Patsy Cline Medley," "The Story," "Spitfire," "Borrowed," "Outrageous Love," "Mother," "Can't Fight the Moonlight," "What I Cannot Change," "Summertime," and "How To Kiss A Boy." The Desert Symphony will open the concert with selections that pay homage to other great female singers such as Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington, Judy Garland, and others.
