Head back to the golden era of rock 'n' roll and rhythm 'n' blues as the historic Woodlawn Theatre stages the ultimate musical revue, Smokey Joe's Café, opening tonight, August 15 on the main stage. The show, which features the legendary tunes of Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame giants Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, runs through September 14.

"There's no dialog, script or plot," says the show's director and choreographer Chris Rodriguez. "It's like stepping into the musical catalog of the tunes that defined a generation." There will be clapping and toe tapping as the cast belts out beloved Leiber and Stoller songs like On Broadway, Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Stand By Me, Spanish Harlem, Love Potion #9, Yakety Yak and Charlie Brown.

With 2036 performances, Smokey Joe's Café played on Broadway for five years, making it the longest-running revue in Broadway history. In 1995, Smokey Joe's Café was nominated for seven Tony Awards, and in 1996, won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.woodlawntheatre.org, or by calling the box office at 210-267-8388. Prices are $15 for students and children, $20 for seniors and military, and $23 for adults.

Special dates: There will be no show on Saturday, September 6, as the cast of Smokey Joe's Café will be performing at the Woodlawn Theatre's first-ever gala.

The Woodlawn Theatre is San Antonio's historic community theatre, located in the heart of the Deco District at 1920 Fredericksburg Road, just south of Hildebrand. Free parking with security patrol is available.
