Utah Shakespeare Festival Sponsoring New Documentary THE ROAD TO THE GLOBE

The Utah Shakespeare Festival is helping sponsor The Road to the Globe, an amazing documentary film which follows a New Zealand theatre company as it prepares and performs Troilus and Cressida at the legendary Globe Theatre, halfway around the world in London.

The documentary is part of the fifth annual DocUtah: Southern Utah International Documentary Film Festival and will be shown on September 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Dixie State University on the main stage of the Eccles Fine Arts Building.

The Road to the Globe follows a group of M?ori actors as they prepare to perform a Te Reo M?ori language adaptation of William Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida at the legendary Globe Theatre in London.

In 2010, with the coming of the London Olympic Games in 2012, the Globe Theatre issued a proclamation outlining the world's biggest Shakespearean festival: 36 countries, 36 Shakespearean plays, 36 languages.

M?ori actor, director, and writer Rawiri Paratene answered the call and was duly given Shakespeare's little known Troilus and Cressida to translate into Te Reo M?ori, cast, rehearse and eventually perform. To raise the stakes, Rawiri and his theatre company were also charged with opening the festival.

Rawiri says the opportunity to take Te Reo M?ori to the other side of the world and perform at one of the most famous theatres was a life-long dream. "This is singularly the most important and fulfilling project I have ever been involved in. To have taken M?ori to the Globe Theatre was special indeed."

The Road to the Globe follows Rawiri and theatre director Rachel House throughout the 12-week rehearsal boot camp starting in New Zealand, where the cast begins a journey of transformation, stepping deeper and deeper into Shakespeare's characters. Throughout the film, we meet key cast members and watch them confront their fears, struggle with lines and ultimately lift each other up to face their opening curtain.

All event passes are $20, and day passes are $5. Students are free with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased at DSU Central Ticket Office located at 375 South 700 East, St. George.
