The 2016/17 season explores what it means to speak the truth, featuring world premieres by Utah playwrights Debora Threedy, Tim Slover, Morag Shepherd and Melissa Leilani Larson.

ONE BIG UNION | a world premiere by Debora Threedy | November 10-20, 2016

Joe Hill was executed in 1915 by the state of Utah for a murder he may or may not have committed. Considered a martyr by organized labor, Joe Hill's songs envisioned gender and racial equality and criticized the gross income disparities of his time. Joe Hill remains an enigmatic folk hero but beyond the mythology lies a larger story of protest through music, more relevant than ever a century after his death. From the author of THE END OF THE HORIZON, WALLACE and THE THIRD CROSSING.

A play with music featuring Daniel Beecher, Carleton Bluford, Roger Dunbar, April Fossen, Tracie Merrill and Jay Perry. Musically directed by David Evanoff, choreographed by Stephanie Howell, directed by Jason Bowcutt.

VIRTUE | a world premiere by Tim Slover | February 16-26, 2017

Poet, composer, writer, herbologist, midwife and Christian mystic, Abbess Hildegard would have been a revolutionary now as well as in the Twelfth Century when she lived. Her vigorous, otherworldly life raises profound questions: In a battle between spiritual conviction and institutional rules, which should win? What counts for more: theology or experience? And especially, who may we love?

A play with music featuring Jay Perry, Shane Rogers, Emilie Eileen Starr and Christy Summerhays. Musically directed by David Evanoff, directed by Jerry Rapier.

NOT ONE DROP | a world premiere by Morag Shepherd | March 23-April 2, 2017

A sideways glance at the roles we play to convince ourselves we are(n't) who we think we are. Intimacy, identity, body image, sex, drugs, language, authorship, power, life, death, a fall, a push, a murder. In partnership with The David Ross Fetzer Foundation for Emerging Artists.

Featuring Colleen Baum and Latoya Cameron, directed by Jerry Rapier.

ADD-ON:

THE EDIBLE COMPLEX | a world premiere by Melissa Leilani Larson | October 8, 2016

THE EDIBLE COMPLEX is the story of eleven-year-old Anna, a foodie who dreams of being a chef. She is also becoming aware of how her body is different from others at school. So one day she decides to stop eating. And Anna's Food? Well, it's hard to ignore your Food when it starts talking to you.

Created specifically for grades 4-6, THE EDIBLE COMPLEX will premiere October 8, 2016 as part of RDT's Ring Around the Rose Series and play more than 40 schools from Weber to Juab County (presented in Davis County by DAC) between October 10-November 18, 2016 as our fourth annual Free Elementary School Tour.
