Vicki Lewis, best known for her role as the quirky Beth on the NBC sitcom "NewsRadio," will return to Sacramento on Sunday, May 8, to perform a benefit concert for California Musical Theatre at the intimate Cosmopolitan Cabaret. Lewis, whose Broadway roles include Gloria in "Damn Yankees" and Velma in "Chicago," is now a Sacramento perennial, making her Music Circus debut in 2008 as Mama Rose in "Gypsy," returning in 2009 as The Baker's Wife in "Into the Woods" and in 2010 as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl." She's slated to return to Sacramento this summer in another celebrated role as Reno Sweeney in Cole Porter's "Anything Goes."

"An Evening with Vicki Lewis" will start at 7:30 p.m. at the 200-seat Cosmopolitan Cabaret at 1000 K Street (between 10th and 11th). Tickets go on sale on Monday, March 28 at 10 a.m. exclusively through the Wells Fargo Pavilion Box Office, 1419 H Street, or by phone at (916) 557-1999.

Vicki Lewis' legendary performance in last summer's "Funny Girl" solidified her as a favorite of Music Circus audiences as well as the critics. Marcus Crowder of The Sacramento Bee said "Lewis has a big, gorgeous voice, but what elevates her performance is the heart and soul we hear in it." In 2008 The Bee callEd Lewis' performance in "Gypsy" "the fiercest, most bracing performance the Wells Fargo Pavilion has ever housed."

Lewis is collaborating with California Musical Theatre artistic director Glenn Casale on the concert. A resident director at Music Circus for over 20 years, Casale directed the Tony Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning "Peter Pan." He has directed multiple productions of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" in Europe and has been named to adapt "The Little Mermaid" for Europe.

Tickets for "An Evening with Vicki Lewis" are $125 for table seating. Tickets in the tiered seating will be $90. Parking is included with table seating (four hours at the garage at 10th and L).

A 501c(3) nonprofit arts organization, California Musical Theatre produces Sacramento Music Circus, the largest and longest operating musical theatre-in-the-round in the country, as well as Broadway Sacramento at the Community Center Theater and the new Cosmopolitan Cabaret. California Musical Theatre offers education programs through accredited internships, programs for underserved audiences, curriculum enrichment for classroom teachers and hands-on theatrical experiences for children. Proceeds from "An Evening with Vicki Lewis" will go toward California Musical Theatre's artistic and educational efforts.
