Regional Theater of the Week: California Musical Theatre in Sacramento, CA

This Week's Featured Regional Theater: California Musical Theatre in Sacramento, CA

California Musical Theatre is Northern California's premiere producer and presenter of musical theatre - the largest nonprofit musical theatre in California. Since the inception of Music Circus in 1951 under an open-air, circus-style big top, California Musical Theatre has grown to become the most successful performing arts organization in Northern California. Between the Music Circus and Broadway Sacramento, California Musical Theatre entertains approximately 250,000 to 275,000 patrons every year. In addition to the unforgettable productions we bring to Sacramento, California Musical Theatre:

-Trains artists of the future through internships.
-Relies on the generosity of hundreds of volunteers - backstage, in the lobby, ushering, in the office and at special event throughout the year.
-It's the association's Educational programs for students and teachers.
-And it's our membership programs where audience members support the ongoing quality of our productions as well as contribute to California Musical Theatre's educational efforts.

California Musical Theatre is a member of the League of American Theaters and Producers, a founding member of theNational Alliance for Musical Theatre and a member of theLeague of Sacramento Theatres.

Music Circus was inducted into the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame in acknowledgment of its long-term commitment to the growth, welfare and development of the region. Music Circus was the first performing arts group to be inducted.

In 2003, CMT opened a new permanent Music Circus tent on the site of the canvas big top. The new theatre - the Wells Fargo Pavilion - allows for greater audience comfort and a myriad of artistic improvements, but is true to the tradition of tent theatre in the round.

The Music Circus is an experience like no other, which is why it's been an integral part of summer for generations of musical theatre lovers for more than 60 years. Our theatre-in-the-round allows Music Circus audiences to experience some of Broadway's top talent in a setting so intimate they feel as if they're part of the show.

Produced by California Musical Theatre at the 2,200 seat Wells Fargo Pavilion, Music Circus brings professional musical theatre in an in-the-round setting.

The final show of the season at the Music Circus is CHICAGO, running through August 20-29, 2013.
