Oakland Symphony 2016-2017 Season Begins, 10/14

The Oakland Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan open the 2016-2017 season with the return of charismatic baritone Hadleigh Adams singing Mahler's Rückert Lieder and the debut of the award-winning Delphi Trio-violinist Liana Bérubé, cellist Michelle Kwon and pianist Jeffrey LaDeur-- performing Paul Juon's Episodes Concertantes Friday, October 14, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.

The program opens witH Clark Suprynowicz's Red States, Blue States (2008) in recognition of the elections this November, and concludes with Elgar's In the South. There will be a pre-concert talk, free to ticket-holders, beginning at 7 pm, and opening night is sponsored, in part, by Wells Fargo. Oakland Symphony Classical Series five-concert season subscriptions are priced $80-$335 and are on sale now, and single tickets, priced $25-$80, www.oaklandsymphony.org

"Our Opening Night celebrates a variety of young artists of the very highest caliber and opens with a piece referencing our upcoming elections," says Maestro Morgan. OAKLAND SYMPHONY LAUNCHES NEW FREE OAKSYM ESSENTIALS

Oakland Symphony is launching OakSym Essentials, a pre-concert series of events that are part performance, part information and free to the public. OakSym Essentials events will feature performers from upcoming Paramount Theatre concerts in a more intimate and informal setting. The audience will be have the opportunity to learn more about some of the music that will be performed and meet the artists and the Symphony's Maestro Michael Morgan. Questions for the artists are encouraged and specially priced tickets to Oakland Symphony concerts will be available for purchase. The first of the OakSym Essentials events will feature a talk and performance by Delphi Trio and is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, at 6 pm at Piedmont Piano, 1728 San Pablo Ave., Oakland. The event is free of charge and advanced registration is required atoaklandsymphony.org as there is limited seating available.
