HEDDA GABLER Adds June 15 Matinee at Capital Stage

Capital Stage continues its 2012-13 "Season of Power Plays" with the an original adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's enigmatic play, HEDDA GABLER. Ibsen, the father of modern drama, created one of the most confounding and complex characters when he first penned HEDDA GABLER in 1891. Since then, Hedda has become one of the most talked about fictional women in all of drama. HEDDA GABLER runs from May 15 through June 16, with a just-added matinee on Saturday, June 15 at 2pm.

Performances for HEDDA GABLER will begin with three previews on Wednesday, May 15 at 7pm and Thursday & Friday May 16 and 17 at 8pm. The production will open on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 8pm. Performances continue for five-weeks through June 16, 2013. Showtimes will be Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. General tickets range from $24-$35. Discount tickets are available as follows: Preview Tickets are $18; Student Rush Tickets are half-priced; Senior SundayMatinee Tickets are $28; and Group Rates are available for parties of 12 or more. Aided and abetted by her predatory confidante, Judge Brack, Hedda begins to indulge in dangerous games, manipulating the fate of those around her. Through Hedda, Ibsen reveals the bitter conflicts and thwarted longings that lie just below the "civilized" transactions of daily life.

First published in 1890 by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, HEDDA GABLER premiered in 1891 in Germany to negative reviews, but has subsequently gained recognition as a classic of realism, nineteenth Century Theatre, and world drama and is currently one of the most revived plays in the world. Capital Stage associate artist, Janis Stevens (Fool For Love, reasons to be pretty) will direct Capital Stage founders Stephanie Gularte as Hedda Gabler, Peter Mohrmannas Judge Brack, and Jonathan Rhys Williams as Eilert Lovborg.The three founders will take the stage together for the first time and will be joined by Michael Wiles (Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, Master Class) as George Tesman and VAda Russell (Les Liaisons Dangereous)as Julia Tesman and Capital Stage newcomers Jessica Chisum as Thea Elvsted and Tara Henry as Berta. The design team includes Steven Jones (scenic), Gail Russell(costumes), and Ron Madonia (lighting).
