B Street Theatre, Sacramento's Resident New Works Theatre, is excited to present The Best Brothers by Daniel MacIvor.

The Best Brothers is the kind of play that B Street Theatre patrons love. It is smart-funny but also sweet; the kind of story everyone can relate to. This is a show about family, the complexities of sibling rivalry and how we love and hate the people closest to us. It's about human emotion and the struggle to get through each day and each task when the unthinkable happens.

The play's central theme is relationships - the brothers to each other, each to their mother and to her dog. Each actor plays both his role and that of their eccentric mother creating a fascinating, ethereal theatricality.

For playwright Daniel MacIvor, the comedy started with Buddy, an Italian greyhound who came into his life as a puppy who tormented him. "I lived on the 25th floor and it was February and I was trying to house-train him," MacIvor says during a recent interview. He would take Buddy out into the cold in the middle of the night just to return to the apartment and have him pee on the floor. Buddy also chewed and destroyed everything in sight.

However, "the dog changed my life," MacIvor says, "and that's the case in the play."
