6th Street Playhouse presents "Kiss Me, Kate", featuring music & lyrics by Cole Porter and a book by Bella and Samuel Spewack

1999 Broadway Revival Version

William Shakespeare's timeless battle-of-the-sexes "The Taming of the Shrew," combined with the incomparable music and lyrics of the great Cole Porter becomes "Kiss Me, Kate," a sophisticated musical comedy.

It's a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of "The Taming of the Shrew," produced and directed by the egotistical FrEd Graham, who co-stars as Petruchio along side his ex-wife (the less than wooable Lilli Vanessi) as the "shrew," Kate.

The couple engage in an emotional war that threatens the production's success. The only thing keeping the show together are threats from a pair of gangsters, who have come to collect a gambling debt. The show must go on and in classic musical-comedy fashion, slapstick madness ensues. Throw in a score of memorable tunes and more than 15 Tony Awards and you've got "Kiss Me, Kate."
