Wagner returned to Ekaterinburg
By the opening of the new theater season Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater prepared a wonderful gift for their fans - production of the opera "The Flying Dutchman" by Richard Wagner. The works of the German composer in the theater were last shown in 1937, and "The Flying Dutchman" in the repertoire of the Ekaterinburg Opera came first. Such a symbolic setting, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Wagner, carried the maestro Michael Güttler (Germany), directed by Paul Curran and artist Gary McCann (United Kingdom), as well as principal guest choirmaster Elvira Gaifullina. Lighting plot of the play created Yevgeny Vinogradov.
"The Flying Dutchman" was the first in the list of reform works of the composer. This is evidenced by the presence of leitmotif system, the desire to create big dramatic scenes. Opera after the premiere, which took place on 2 January 1843 in Dresden under the control of Wagner, has been recognized not once, but gradually gained lasting success worldwide.
