Wagner returned to Yekaterinburg
By the opening of the new theater season Ekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre has prepared a wonderful gift for their fans - the opera "The Flying Dutchman" by Richard Wagner. The works of the German composer in the theater were last shown in 1937, and the "Flying Dutchman" in the repertoire of the Ekaterinburg Opera came first. Such a symbolic statement, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Wagner, carried maestro Michael Güttler (Germany), directed by Paul Curran and artist Gary McCann (United Kingdom), as well as principal guest choirmaster Elvira Gaifullina. Light performance score created Evgeny Vinogradov.
"The Flying Dutchman" was the first in the list of reform works of the composer. This is evidenced by the presence of leitmotif system, the desire to create big dramatic scenes. Opera after the premiere, which took place January 2, 1843 in Dresden under the control of Wagner, was recognized at once, but gradually gained lasting success worldwide.
