Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 5/04/2014 GIRLS NIGHT OUT COMEDY
Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre
5/9-5/9/2014
oin us for our annual Girls Night Out! ... an evening of hilarious female comedy! Our popular Girls Night Out Comedy Night presented by Charlie Hall will be returning again for our 2014 season! Headlining this year's Girls Night Out party will be comedian Sherry Davey! Sherry Davey is the ultimate bi-coastal lady. She was born in the United States but raised in England. For years her family went back and forth between the two countries, but her parents always made sure she saw American dentists regularly. Living on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, never quite fitting in on either coast, gives Sherry the impetus for her quick-witted, acid-tongued approach to life. Sherry was influenced mostly by her grandfather, Maxwell Lapham, who was a stand up comic and night club performer in London during the 1940's and 50's. Sherry was seen most recently on Nick At Nite's SEARCH FOR AMERICA'S FUNNIEST MOM II the series. She has regularly appeared on Comedy Central's TOUGH CROWD WITH COLIN QUINN and PREMIUM BLEND. She plays colleges, casinos and comedy clubs all around the country and has been honored as one of the Hollywood Reporter's "Magificent Seven." She was recently named one of the "Top 10 comedians in NYC" by the Improper Magazine. She appears regularly in NYC at: The Comic Strip; The New New York Improv; The New York Comedy Club; Carolines. She has her own blog entitled FUNNY MOM at NBC's Momtourage.com

Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 5/04/2014 COMPANY
PLAYERS/BARKER PLAYHOUSE
5/9-5/18/2014
The clashing sounds and pulsing rhythms of New York City underscore this landmark "concept" show, considered by many to have inaugurated the modern era of musical theatre. COMPANY follows our anti-hero bachelor Robert as he makes his way through a series of encounters with April (the stewardess), Kathy (the girl who's going to marry someone else), Marta (the "peculiar" one), as well as with his married friends. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are introduced to "those good and crazy people," his married friends, as Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life. In the end, he realizes being alone is "alone, not alive."An honest, witty, sophisticated look at relationships, COMPANY is as contemporary and relevant as ever (witness the recent hit revivals on Broadway and the West End). It features a brilliant energetic score containing many of Stephen Sondheim's best-known songs (including "Another Hundred People," "The Ladies Who Lunch" and "Being Alive").

Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 5/04/2014 BLACKBIRD
Gamm Theatre
5/1-6/1/2014
Scottish playwright David Harrower's most acclaimed and most controversial play, Blackbird "is theater at its most elemental," says The New York Times. In a littered factory break room, 55-year-old Ray and 27-year-old Una engage in a confrontation so real and raw that you feel you should look away. But how can you? Fifteen years earlier, the two had a sexual affair...when she was 12. Ray has assumed a new identity and a new life following his imprisonment, while Una has not stopped searching for answers to her conflicting emotions. What emerges from the recriminations and explanations is a complex relationship that blurs the boundaries between love and lust, obsession and abuse. Uncompromising, shocking and surprisingly tender, Blackbird will leave you hanging on every word and every uncomfortable silence.
