Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 1/05/2014 WICKED
Providence Performing Arts Center
12/26-1/12/2014
Back by "Popular" demand. Variety calls WICKED "a cultural phenomenon," and every time it plays Providence, it breaks box office records. Winner of over 50 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED is "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" (The New York Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time" (USA Today).

Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 1/05/2014 ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
The Community Players
1/10-1/19/2014
It's murder most funny as the homicidal Brewster sisters take to relieving the loneliness of old men by inviting them in for a nice glass of homemade elderberry wine which happens to be laced with arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide. This farcical black comedy revolves around their nephew Mortimer, as he debates whether to go through with his wedding since his family also includes a brother who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt, and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery performed by Dr. Einstein. A lively comic masterpiece.

Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 1/05/2014 THE LYONS
2nd Story Theatre
1/10-2/9/2014
Sure, this furiously funny, savagely snide family is hilarious as they kick the ego out of one another. But look at them close and you're likely to find an intimate mirror of your own frightened self. Razor-sharp, black comedy perfection.

Now Playing Onstage in Rhode Island - Week of 1/05/2014 THE BIG MEAL
Gamm Theatre
1/9-2/9/2014

Sparks fly, setting in motion the extraordinary tale of five generations of an ordinary family with the moments, both mundane and milestone, that make a life. Just eight actors at one table morph into multiple characters over nearly 80 years, displaying their shared DNA, humanity and humor. In the spirit of Thornton Wilder's plays (Our Town, The Long Christmas Dinner), The Big Meal is stunningly ambitious, big-hearted and richly satisfying. Reservations recommended!
