Miti Hamilton Directs and Choreographs A CHORUS LINE at Theatre By The Sea, 6/2

 

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the not-for-profit producing entity at the historic Theatre By The Sea, is pleased to welcome Mitzi Hamilton as director and choreographer of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical, A CHORUS LINE, scheduled to open the summer season on June 2, 2010.

Best known for her association with Michael Bennett's legendary A CHORUS LINE, Ms. Hamilton provided the inspiration for the character of Val, and performed the role in the original London Company and then on Broadway. Subsequently, she went on to recreate over 35 productions of A CHORUS LINE in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Ms. Hamilton's performance career includes eight classic Broadway shows, including Cabaret and Pippin. She was also featured in the original casts of APPLAUSE, SEESAW, ON THE TOWN (Revival), and KING OF HEARTS. Regional theatre credits include Nellie Forbush in SOUTH PACIFIC and the title role in SWEET CHARITY.

In addition to Michael Bennett, she has been directed by such legends as Hal Prince, Ron Field, and Bob Fosse. Ms. Hamilton's directing credits also include DAMN YANKEES, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, I DO, I DO, STEPPING OUT, SWINGTIME CANTEEN, THE BOYFRIEND, GYPSY, GREASE, SWEET CHARITY, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', 42ND STREET, EVITA, CATS, WEST SIDE STORY, CURTAINS, and Bob Fosse's CHICAGO. Her choreography for SWEET CHARITY at the Drury Lane Oakbrook Theatre in Chicago, won the Jeff Award for Best Choreography in 2008. She also directed and choreographed A CHORUS LINE in Poland, in Polish, at the Capitol Teatr in Wroclaw.

A CHORUS LINE will be presented at Theatre By The Sea from June 2 - June 20. Previews are scheduled for Wednesday, June 2 at 8:00 pm and Thursday, June 3 at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. Opening weekend performances will be held on Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 4:30 and 8:30 pm and Sunday at 3:00 and 8:00 pm. All other performances will be held Tuesday through Friday evenings at 8:00 pm, Thursdays at 2:00 pm, Saturdays at 4:30 and 8:30 pm and Sundays at 5:00 pm. The theatre is located at 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck, RI. Tickets are $35 for preview performances and $39-$49 for all other performances.
