The board of directors of The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) has announced the appointment of David M. Wax as managing director of the theater, effective November 30, 2012.

Wax had been serving as the theater's acting executive director since last June when then-Executive Director Yvonne Seggerman began a six-month sabbatical. When Seggerman informed the board of her decision to resign rather than return as scheduled in January 2013, they considered their options in seeking a permanent successor.

Board President Sam Babbitt explains, "When David indicated that he was willing to continue in a full-time capacity, he gave The Gamm an incredible opportunity to move forward with a seasoned executive familiar with the inner workings of the institution and attuned to the specific opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. With his previous tenure as a Gamm board president coupled with his vast experience helming successful arts institutions, David's selection is one of the easiest decisions we have ever made."

Artistic Director Tony Estrella concurs, "We are very fortunate to bring on a managing director of David's caliber. He offers not only enthusiasm and an effective vision moving forward, but his knowledge of and commitment to both the organization and the Rhode Isalnd arts community makes for as smooth a transition as I and the staff could wish for. I look forward to partnering with David for many seasons to come and together leading The Gamm to new heights."

Says Wax, "While I had no intention of once again taking on a full-time administrative position, when the board approached me about becoming managing director for The Gamm, I could not resist. I have been extremely enthusiastic about the work of The Gamm since coming to Rhode Island, and that enthusiasm has grown as The Gamm has grown artistically. I am excited at the prospect of working with Tony, with the highly capable staff that I have gotten to know over the past several months, and with the committed members of the board. I look forward to building on the excellent work and achievement of the The Gamm under Yvonne's direction and to contributing to the bright future of this extraordinary theatrical company."
