Festival Ballet Providence's (FBP) 38th Season concludes with one of the most iconic ballets the world has ever known: Swan Lake.

The cherished story of love and deception - set to Tchaikovsky's luscious score - features magnificent sets, breathtaking virtuosity, and some of the most enduring choreography in the canon of classical ballet. At once spellbinding and graceful, the timeless ballet has been enjoyed by audiences around the world since its 1877 premiere.

The ballet will be presented at The VETS, April 29 through May 1. The May 1st matinee performance will be followed immediately by FBP's fundraising gala Black & White Fete, in The VETS Black Box Theater.

The program is also a celebration of the career of leading FBP dancer Mindaugas Bauzys who retires from the stage this season after a remarkable performing career including eight seasons at FBP. Beloved by audiences and respected by colleagues around the world, Mr. Bauzys' commanding technique and thoughtful artistry earned him awards and accolades throughout his 25-year performing career, including Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (where he was a principal) and Boston Ballet (where he was a first-soloist). At FBP, audiences have delighted in watching Mr. Bauzys in numerous leading roles; his versatility and virtuosity made him a favorite of audiences of all artistic tastes. It is expected that Mr. Bauzys will dance the principal role of Prince Siegfried in the April 29 and May 1 performances (casting is subject to change without notice).

FBP Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric said, "Swan Lake is one of the all-time masterpieces of classical ballet. Audiences love the drama and virtuosity, which is why I think it has withstood the test of time and remains such an iconic work of dance and music." Rich with drama and grace, the ballet tells the story of Odette-held captive and transformed into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart-and the young Prince Siegfried whose love for Odette ignites his desire to free her. Set to the lush and soaring score by Tchaikovsky (his first of three iconic ballets), Swan Lake stands as an iconic work of artistry, virtuosity, and storytelling. "Ultimately this is an exquisite love story and I am delighted every time I get a chance to share this ballet with our audience."
