Does your child like to sing, dance and use their imagination? If so, Camp OSTC is the perfect place for them to utilize their musical theatre talent and have fun at the same time! There are still a few spots left for the two-week musical theatre camp, which is being conducted by the professional theatre staff at Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the not-for-profit producing entity at the historic Theatre By The Sea. Registration deadline is TODAY, July 6, 2012.

Not only will campers have fun, but they’ll also have the opportunity to work with top quality theatre professionals, while they learn performance techniques including acting, voice and dance, as well as technical skills including the design and creation of costumes, sets, and props, to be utilized for a full scale musical production of Honk! Jr., which will be performed by the campers as part of Theatre By The Sea’s 2012 Children’s Festival on Friday, August 3 at 10:00 am and 12 noon. A selection of master classes, taught by guest artists, will also be included during the two-week session.

“We are so excited to be able to offer this unique camp experience again this summer,” said Producing Artistic Director, Amiee Turner. “We are also happy to announce that one of this year’s campers will once again be chosen to receive a scholarship provided by The Keri Anne O’Donnell Memorial Fund.”

The Keri Anne O’Donnell Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of Keri Anne O’Donnell, who loved everything about performing – singing, dancing and acting. In theatrical terms, she was a triple threat. Keri was just 15 years old when she was killed in a car accident. The O’Donnell family feels it is their mission to keep Keri’s dreams alive by assisting other youngsters like her - performers who have a passion for a performing art.

Camp OSTC will be directed by local award-winning actor and director, Tom Gleadow, who portrayed the role of Edna in last season’s production of Hairspray. Other performance credits include Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, Awake and Sing, A Doll's House, and Romeo and Juliet at the Gamm Theatre, The Producers at New Bedford Festival Theatre and A Christmas Carol atTrinity Repertory Company. Tom, who holds a BFA in theatre, has introduced teenagers to the world of Shakespeare as the co-director at the Gamm Summer Institute for the past two years and was the theatre camp director at the Kent County YMCA for three years. In addition, Tom has directed numerous productions for various colleges and high schools throughout New England.

Camp OSTC will be held at Sam’s Studio in Wakefield, RI and Theatre By The Sea from July 23-August 3, 2012 and is limited to 30 students entering grades 5-9.
