It wouldn't be summer without Artists' Exchange's One Act Play Festival, hosted this July 22-August 13 in the intimate Theatre 82 black box in Cranston (82 Rolfe Square)! Community actors will perform 17 original one act plays written by local and national playwrights, whose works were selected from over 1,100 total submissions. The festival is broKen Down into two unique performance "Waves," with Wave 1 running July 22-30 and Wave 2 running August 5-13; both rated PG-13. Tickets are now on sale for $15 in advance, available for purchase online (www.artists-exchange.org), by phone (401-490-9475), or in person at Artists' Exchange (50 Rolfe Square).

Directors are Lauren Annicelli, Jessica Chace (Artistic Director), Tom Chace (Music Director), and David Kane, working with 30 actors ranging from ages 10 to 80. This is the 11th annual festival and the most daring year yet, featuring original music, dance, avant-garde/abstractionism, multi-media, projections, and even showcasing the writing talents of Artists' Exchange's Emily Norklun. Overarching themes are the passage of time and photosynthesis of life and death.

Wave 1 (July 22-30) delights with ensemble pieces like the dark comedy The Suicide Coaster (by Bridgette Dutta Portman of Fremont, CA), and farcical Funeral Crashers (by Andy Accioli of Warwick, RI). A Dog Dreams (by Jeffrey Fischer-Smith of Tucson, AZ) tenderly tugs at your heart strings, while Schrodinger's Roulette (by Jody McColman of Portland, ME) keeps you in suspense until well after blackout.

Wave 2 (August 5-13) makes daring chances with It's Beautiful (by Ann Marley of Selinsgrove, PA) and the whirlwind multi-media piece Cabfare for the Common Man (by Mark Harvey Levine of Pasadena, CA). Laughs abound in the light-hearted piece Urban Gardening (by Ivan Faute of Portsmouth, VA), and "give-it-to-the-man" comedy Free Beer (by L.H. Grant of Davis, CA). Experience all the thrills and chills and laughs and tears this summer!

Mark your calendars today! Wave 1 performances are July 22, 23, 29, 30; Wave 2 performances are August 5, 6, 12, 13; all PG-13. Shows are Fridays at 7:00pm and Saturdays at both 3:00pm and 7:00pm.
