Bringing together Shakespeare's two great history plays, Player Kings is now open at the Noël Coward Theatre. Review: THE SEASONS' CANON at Pacific Northwest Ballet
Seattle: April 15, 2024

“The Seasons’ Canon” offers a safe haven for deeply feeling arts lovers to take a safe seat for a couple of hours and experience our powerful and merciful natural world through the medium of dance.

Review: CHICKS IN HEAVEN at Creative Cauldron

Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Desert Theatreworks

Review: News and Tunes at SUMMER THEATRE GALA at Saint Vincent Summer Theatre
Pittsburgh: April 15, 2024

I've posted many times about how much of an institution Saint Vincent Summer Theatre has become: you know you're going to get a slapstick farce, a Golden Age or earlier revue, and usually a musical comedy with pop oldies.

Review: AGATHA CHRISTIE'S MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS at Theatre Three
Long Island: April 15, 2024

Port Jefferson's Theatre Three sensationally continues their amazing fifty third season with a gripping production of Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express. It is most interesting and thrilling to see a mystery mounted locally as this title doesn't seem to be done often. This production runs through May 4th at the charming Long Island venue and by the enthusiasm from opening weekend, you may want to get your tickets quickly.

Review: ROCKY THE MUSICAL at MTKC Pro
Kansas City: April 15, 2024

The Music Theatre Kansas City – (Pro) KC Premiere production of the 2014’s Broadway version of “Rocky the Musical” is surprisingly worth your time.  It is hard to have avoided Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky Franchise” beginning as a sleeper, low budget film hit in 1976.  So far there have been six “Rocky” movies plus several follow-on films based on the career of the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s original opponent and eventual friend.

Review: A THOUSAND MAIDS at Two River Theater-Meaningful and Humorous
New Jersey: April 15, 2024

Two River Theater (TRT) is now presenting the captivating world premiere comedy, A Thousand Maids.

Review: An Exclusive Evening with Peter Jöback at Rival
Sweden: April 15, 2024

Peter Jöback has released a new record, Atlas, and tonight was the first time he played all the songs live in. At the winter concerts in 2023, we got a first glimps of his new sound when he played the title song Atlas.  In total there are ten new songs on the album, all which he has co-written with Ed Harcourt and Kathryn Williams and they have created a British pop sound that suits Peter vocice and style very well.

Review: SKYLIGHT Enlists Tim Rice's FROM HERE TO ETERNITY for Season Finale
Milwaukee, WI: April 15, 2024

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY follows the lives of the soldiers of G Company based in Hawaii in the days leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. The story was inspired by author Jones’ own experiences during the war—but how does that story translate to the stage?

Review: XANADU at Tower Groves Abbey
St. Louis: April 15, 2024

Based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton-John and, before that, the Rita Hayworth film, Down To Earth, this lively adaptation never takes itself too seriously. From start to finish the ensemble prances, preens, and mugs it up, giving audiences a sugary sweet over the top show filled with kinetic dancing, wonderful singing and plenty of toe tapping melodies.

Review: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW at CLASSICAL THEATRE COMPANY
Houston: April 15, 2024

I don’t think you are going to find a funnier TAMING OF THE SHREW easily. Director Dana Bowman has lucked out to get the cast and crew that could pull this off, and she had extreme insight into how to handle the problems the show represents to women today. You will laugh, and you will find it a delight. Sitting through TAMING OF THE SHREW was never a chore, and I was enchanted from start to finish.

Review: SHANIQUA IN ABSTRACTION at Streetcar Crowsnest
Toronto: April 15, 2024

Directed by Sabryn Rock, behind Theatre Passe Muraille’s hit Our Place, watson’s show is an 85-minute series of sketches about the joys and frustrations of being a Black woman right here, right now.

A Musical Journey: Cathy Kaplan's experience on The Polar Express'
Argentina: April 15, 2024

Argentinian performer, Cathy Kaplan, was recently dancing atop a moving train, infusing every step with holiday cheer for delighted audiences. This was the scene during her last role on The Polar Express train ride experience in Perris, California. While the train itself is a beloved Christmas tradition, it was Cathy's presence, together with a great cast, that added such enchantment to the experience.

Review: UNKNOWN SOLDIER at Arena Stage
Washington, DC: April 15, 2024

'Unknown Soldier' is a beautifully performed show with a fascinating exploration of memory, love, and loss, but its main flaw is that it is a show seeking out answers to a mystery it not only fails to resolve, but further convolutes at every turn. While there’s truth in that, it’s also a little dissatisfying, as life itself often is.

Sofi Grosso, made her theater debut as one of the leading characters in the Off-Broadway Brazilian show 'Barba.'
Argentina: April 15, 2024

Barba, produced by Luis Salgado of Revolución Latina and choreographed by Valeria Cossu, has been acclaimed as a remarkable theatrical achievement. It was staged at the prestigious Pregones Theatre in The Bronx, venue that through the years had attracted notable figures such as  Barack Obama to witness its original performances.

Review: WAITING FOR THE MARLBORO MAN at Upstream Theater
St. Louis: April 15, 2024

The remarkable Upstream Theater is approaching its twentieth season.  This unfailingly excellent little company was founded by Philip Boehm as a vehicle for bringing to America plays from around the world—plays that, for the most part, make their very first American appearance at Upstream.  We so need that!

Review: MACBETH at Shakespeare Theatre Company
Washington, DC: April 15, 2024

STC’s Macbeth highlights brutal pairs: war and domestic life, grief and humor, brief words and permanent consequences. While the setting could feel unassuming—indeed, audiences must make their way through the parking lot of a Home Depot when arriving via metro—it also shows how extravagant it is to create a theatre space from scratch. This over-the-top, hollowed-out aesthetic fits the world of the play, where titles and status belie a fear of impermanence. Combined with raw, vulnerable performances, this is a powerful take on the timeless tragedy.

Review: GISELLE: REMIX, Pleasance Theatre
UK / West End: April 15, 2024

Created by cabaret artist Jack Sears and Royal Ballet soloist Hannah Grennell, Giselle:Remix fuses dance and lip sync.

Review: LIAM WITHNAIL: CHRONIC BOOM, Soho Theatre
UK / West End: April 15, 2024

Liam Withnail: Chronic Boom begins with a video, in which Withnail is recording a podcast episode with a fellow comedian. Before they can get into a conversation, however, Withnail receives a call from the hospital, telling him that he needs to go in overnight. This meant dropping everything and going, including missing a big gig on a cruise ship.

Review: PLAYING LATINX, Soho Theatre
UK / West End: April 15, 2024

'Walking into the Soho Theatre Upstairs, you are given a nametag before taking your seat. Interestingly enough, Playing Latinx has the same start as Derren Brown’s Unbelievable on the West End, with a chair on stage and a sign stating, “The show will start once someone sits on this chair.”'
