The Orquestra del Liceu visits us with a repertoire that is 100% romantic: Tchaikovsky’s final completed symphony, intense and spectacular, an Overture by Mendelssohn and the Violin Concerto that the same German composer composed 170 years ago which continues to captivate us at every hearing.
Program
Kai Gleeusten, concertmaster of the Orquestra del Liceu, will be presenting one of the most often performed concerts for violin and orchestra in the world. When comparing the concerts of Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch and Mendelssohn the legendary violinist Joseph Joachim said that the latter is “the most profound, the jewel in the crown of German violin concertos”. Josep Pons has completed the programme with the most personal and intense symphony by Tchaikovsky, the Sixth, a look inside his complex personality, premiered under the baton of the composer himself only nine days before his sudden death. A musical will and testament with the status of a masterpiece.
