Recording of Aaron Tveit's sold out concert engagement at New York's 54 BELOW. Mixing Broadway with pop, childhood favorites with contemporary sounds, and superstar vocals with charismatic good looks, Tveit s cabaret debut will have them talking for years. Broadway embraced Aaron when he memorably created roles in Next to Normal and Catch Me if You Can, in addition to his performances in Hairspray and Wicked. Television audiences can soon tune in regularly for the debut of his new USA Network series, Graceland, coming this June, and moviegoers were recently star-struck by his work in Les Misérables.
With a stunning tenor instrument, Aaron Tveit's voice is one of the album's strongest aspects. He vocalizes each number with brilliant clarity and control, but the performances lack a certain energy. When speaking, Tveit shows a plethora of engaging personality. In fact, several of his anecdotes are more fascinating than the bland arrangements of the numbers he performs. His stories and commentary on "Welcome, Freshmen," "Where Am I?," "Not Your Average Lullaby," and "No Judgment" outshine several of his musical performances. Another element that detracts from the album is the rough cuts and quick fadeouts that sound uncharacteristically rough and choppy. Tveit's album offers a treasure trove of his golden vocalizations. I simply expected more from the release, and I just wish it was more dynamic.
