Don't Miss Sun Records Live at Theatre Raleigh Arts Center
Theatre Raleigh has announced the casting for their upcoming production of Forever Plaid, and that single tickets are now on sale! The first production for their 2022 Main Stage Season opens on May 11th, and plays through the 22nd. Forever Plaid will play in the Lobby Performance Space that audiences enjoyed during Theatre Raleigh's Holiday Cabaret!
Fans of American Bandstand will revel in the nostalgia of it, while baby boomers may be more reflective on the counterculture of the time. Either way, the Theatre Raleigh production of Beehive: The 60's Musical is an entertaining retrospective of the women, the music, and the movements that defined a generation. Director Tim Seib is no stranger to Theatre Raleigh or this genre for that matter, having directed the Theatre Raleigh production and the current national tour of Million Dollar Quartet. This production, however, lacks some of the focus, polish, and finesse of last season's irreproachable production of Once, which Seib also directed. And unlike Million Dollar Quartet, this production only alludes to the iconic singers and girl groups of the 60s through the eyes of six fictitious female characters, none of whom are all that distinctive or interesting until the second act when their rock goddess personas are clearly identifiable.
Theatre Raleigh is at 2. East South Street, Raleigh, NC.
Theatre Raleigh is professional, non-profit theatre company based in Raleigh, North Carolina. It grew out of the original “Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy” Series, begun in 2005 by K.D. Kennedy Jr. and his son, Michael Kennedy. The series operated out of the K.D. and Sara Lynn Kennedy Theatre, a 133-seat black box space around the back of the Duke Energy Center performing arts complex. In 2009, Lauren Kennedy Brady took over the series from her father and brother, building it into a year-round professional company that she renamed Theatre Raleigh. The organization officially incorporated as a nonprofit in 2013. Under Kennedy-Brady’s leadership, Theatre Raleigh has grown into one of the top theatre destinations in the Triangle, employing both local professionals and Broadway veterans. The company still continues its beloved Summer Series, but has expanded its programming to include a Family Series, a new works initiative, various concert events, and a number of educational components.
