Hairspray, directed by L.D. Burris, opens today, August 22nd and kicks off the 2014-15 Season of Love. The year is 1962 and Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad is going to do whatever it takes to dance her way onto TV's most popular show. Can a big girl with big dreams--and even bigger hair--turn the whole town around and still have time to win the boy she loves?

Patrick Torres, the Theatre's new artistic director, will tell a story at an event co-hosted with The Monti on Sunday, August 24th. The goal of this event is to provide the public with an unprecedented voice-a means of engagement by telling their own personal stories on a theme that ties directly into Hairspray, "Bridging Gaps." Patrick's story explores how his upbringing and heritage (father, Mexican-American, mother, European descent) influenced his interest in theater and decision to pursue a career as a theater artist.

RLT will also partner with The Monti for a free storytelling workshop by Executive Director Jeff Polish on August 27, and a StorySLAM on August 31. Tickets are required for all three events, though the workshop is free.

Hairspray is sponsored by First Citizens Bank, with show partner Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Opening night is sponsored by Sweet T Salon and the first Saturday is sponsored by Physios. Tickets for all events can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon-5 PM, or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org. Hairspray runs from August 22-September 7. Evening shows (Thu-Sat) are at 8:00 PM; Sunday matinees are at 3 PM.
