For three decades at Raleigh Little Theatre, a princess and her glass slipper have delighted fans both young and old. This year is no different as RLT brings the magic of Cinderella back to life December 6 through 21 in its 30th anniversary production.

In addition to incorporating fresh new elements, this special production of the Triangle classic will pay homage to RLT's late artistic director, Haskell Fitz-Simmons. He directed all previous Cinderella productions and made the show his own by adding songs, characters and memorable dances.

"This year's Cinderella is dedicated to Haskell's memory, will honor the tradition and reinstate some elements of the show's prologue from his first few productions. But we will also add new effects and a new song to ensure it remains fresh and relevant. You might say it's the best of both old and new at the same time," said Nancy Rich, the production's co-director and choreographer.

Rich will co-direct with her husband, Rod Rich. His ties to the production go back to the second and third productions at RLT, where he played King Darling the Third. Together, they have directed many productions at RLT, including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Nunsense, Forever Plaid, and The Taffetas.

Rod Rich isn't the only one in this year's production with a unique history. Lisa Gorman was the original Cinderella, and her husband Rowell Gormon was the original King Darling the Third. First appearing together at RLT as newlyweds, they are back 30 years later, with Mrs. Gormon performing in the ensemble and Mr. Gormon reprising his role as the King.

Other ways that the theatre is celebrating the 30th anniversary include inviting alumni up on stage at the end of each show for a holiday sing-a-long and producing a video retrospective of the first 29 years that will run pre-show in the theater and also on RLT's You Tube channel. Another is a partnership with WRAL's Coats for the Children in which RLT will donate 30 percent of every ticket sold for the Dec. 12th performance to the Salvation Army. The donations will go to help provide families in need with warm winter coats.

Tickets for all events at RLT can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon-5 PM, or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org. Cinderella runs from December 6-21. Thursday and Friday showings are at 7:30 PM while Saturday and Sunday showings are at 1 PM and 5 PM performance. All tickets are $30 and the show will be in the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre.
