Burning Coal Theatre Company will present the world premiere staged reading of DIRT, a brand new play by Raleigh playwright Kelly Doyle on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7 pm at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh. The reading will feature Dana Marks of Durham, Mark Filiaci of Chapel Hill and Fred Corlett of Raleigh.

The play is about a 12 year old girl , Penelope, who refuses to take a bath. Instead, she and her beloved stuffed lion choose to go on a great adventure to the moon.

Tickets are FREE with a suggested donation of $5 at the door. For further information, call 919-834-4001. The play is suitable for younger audiences.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT. Kelly Doyle holds an MFA in Playwriting from Brown University. She is the author of BLUE, a play which will be presented on Burning Coal Theatre Company's mainstage season in January, 2011. She is the author of a number of plays. She has worked with or studied with Eric Ehn, Sarah Ruhl and studied theatre at CalArts.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR. Emily Ranii recently received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. In the fall, she will begin work on an MFA at Boston, University. She is a member of Burning Coal Theatre Company, where she has acted in numerous productions and directed The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Carson Kreitzer and Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. She is current artistic director of the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, where she recently directed Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl. She recently directed Nine Parts of Desire at PlayMakers Repertory Company's PRC2 series and Proof for the Temple Theatre in Sanford.
