Today the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the world's largest provider of programs and services for LGBT people, announced that the organization has become a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). Center CEO Lorri L. Jean will represent the organization at CGI's Annual Meeting in New York that begins on September 21.

The Center is participating in a LGBT themed session entitled "The Modern Business Imperative: LGBT Rights Around the World." Panelists for the session include Center Chief of Staff Darrel Cummings and Xiaogang Wei, a prominent Chinese activist/filmmaker and graduate of the Center's Emerging Leaders program.

CGI was established by President Bill Clinton in 2005 to convene global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. CGI's Annual Meetings have brought together more than 180 heads of state, 20 Nobel Prize laureates, and hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations and NGOs, major philanthropists and members of the media.

"The LGBT community includes people from every community and from every country," said Jean, "and wherever we are, we continue to face some degree of bigotry and discrimination. So it's important to berepresented at an annual assemblage of leaders from around the world who are discussing solutions to global problems. I'm looking forward to meeting the other CGI members, sharing lessons learned from the Center's 45 years of experience helping to make the world a better place for LGBT people, and discussing ideas and collaborations to advance our common goals."
