Join in for the two hundred and sixty-eighth birthday celebration of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a January concert featuring, among other things, the finale of Act 2 of Le nozze di Figaro and the dramatic pinnacle of Don Giovanni.
Accordingly, the new production of the Mozart opera at the unique Estates Theatre is actually at variance with the long tradition - this time, an adaptation of Don Giovanni will be created by the Swedish-Norwegian stage director Alexander Mørk-Eidem in tandem with the German conductor and Mozart specialist Karsten Januschke.
If we were to name the places at which Mozart in person premiered an opera of his and which still function as theatres, the one and only candidate in the world would be the Estates Theatre in Prague. The National Theatre Opera has proudly cherished this unique tradition for decades.

The long-standing Mozart tradition belongs among the greatest glories of Prague’s rich cultural history. The Estates Theatre is globally unique as the one and only preserved and still functional venue where a world premiere of the Don Giovanni opera took place with W. A. Mozart himself conducting.
If we were to name the works that connect Prague with the global music and theatre, the top position among them would undoubtedly be occupied by W. A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
This Mozart’s “Prague” opera is one of the most frequently performed titles in the Estates Theatre. It is a work of Shakespearean multivalence, blending comedy and tragedy, “high” and “low”, giving rise to philosophical contemplations while at the same time affording entertainment replete with excitement and humour.
The National Theatre Opera of Prague will premiere a live broadcast of Don Giovanni 24/4 on CT art.
Classical Movements' Prague Summer Nights: Young Artists Music Festival has decided, like several other prestigious summer festivals, to plan to be live and in-person this summer. To make this more possible, the festival will be moved two weeks later and will now take place July 5 to August 2, 2021.
The Estates Theatre hosts performances of the legendary Don Giovanni production directed by Václav Kašlík, on August 26.
The Shakespeare Theatre Association (STA) annual conference came to Prague this year. It has an extensive performance program, crafted by host Guy Roberts and Prague Shakespeare Company, that was open to the public as well as conference attendees. The conference was all about bringing the focus back to the artistic sides of things, as theatre tries to compete in a world filled with on-demand entertainment.
