Girl Be Heard (girlbeheard.org), a New York City-based nonprofit theatre company that brings issues affecting girls center stage by empowering young women to tell their stories, is proud to partner with Well Arts Institute (wellarts.org), a nonprofit, arts organization that explores the health of the Portland community and its members through the reflective lens of the arts. Through this partnership, Girl Be Heard company members will bring their newest production to Portland on September 26th at 7:30 pm, at Sellwood Playhouse.

In Unclassified: Rising Above Hunger, Homelessness and the Streets, the company shares their personal struggles with depression, addiction, sexual assault, foster care, and sex trafficking. Company member Tiff Roma says, "This show is for those of us who feel like being a 'product of the system' is not the only label we are meant to have. I am not a number or a label. I am as complicated and beautiful as the story I share in this new work, Unclassified."

Katy Liljeholm, Well Arts Artistic Director says "We are thrilled to partner with Girl Be Heard on this season's youth program at p:ear. Their performance, along with the energy and compassion they bring to it, is a great way to engage both the youth and the public in the issue of youth homelessness facing our region today." September 24th through 28th, Artistic Director Director of Education and Artistic Associate bring Girl Be Heard's unique empowerment curriculum to facilitate workshops with youth from Well Arts and p:ear, a mentorship program that builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.

Unclassified is open to the public and takes place on September 26 at 7:30pm at the Sellwood Playhouse. Tickets are available for purchase at wellarts.org: $15 general admission; $12 seniors/students/children under 18; $10 pre-order.
