CoHo's production 'NIGHT, MOTHER is filled with treasures, opening Oct. 17.The wonderful actor Gavin Hoffman is making his professional directorial debut. Jacklyn Maddux, one of Portland's finest actors, and Dana Millican, a ferocious talent, are playing two dream roles.

And of course the play by Marsha Norman. 'NIGHT, MOTHER utilizes the unities of time and space, provoking deep thought and a visceral emotional experience.
On the surface 'NIGHT, MOTHER is a play about death, but it asks us what we need to do to lead fuller richer lives. We invite you to read a thought provoking paper, Death Life and Everything In Between: Unearthing the Dark Treasures of 'NIGHT, MOTHER, written by a Portland treasure, Barbara Holt. Barbra holds a Ph.D and serves as a psychodramaturge. Invited by the director Barbara supports the production with insight into the psychological action of these fully formed and intricate characters.

In her paper, Barbara suggests that 'NIGHT, MOTHER.."insists that we contemplate the human requirements for being fully alive."

For 19 years, CoHo Productions has pioneered artist led co-production as a model of creating theatre. Each season, CoHo solicits scripts and project proposals from Portland's community of theatre professionals and selects three to produce in partnership at CoHo Theatre in Northwest Portland. The artistic vision is democratic, reflecting the tastes of the Portland theatre community. Seasons are diverse and unpredictable; the sole quality nurtured and insisted on is excellence.
