12 Peers Theater launches its Fifth Anniversary Season, featuring free year round digital content, a fringe festival favorite, and a local premiere by Conor McPherson.

12 Peers will premiere thirteen new plays online as part of the Modern Myths Podcast. The podcast will also feature exclusive interviews and audience Q&A's with key individuals.

White Rabbit Red Rabbit, coming from successful runs at the Edinburgh and Philadelphia Fringe Festivals, is an experimental solo performance featuring a new actor every night. The Birds, a psychological thriller by Conor McPherson, digs deep into human relationships in a post-apocalyptic landscape and will be directed by Artistic Director, Vince Ventura.

Ventura said about the 2016 season: "Theatre is about community. For our fifth anniversary, we are giving a gift to the community who has been so supportive for the past four years. We are also offering an invitation to be a part of that community, and we don't want the price of a ticket to hold anyone back."

White Rabbit Red Rabbit
By Nassim Soleimanpour
April 7-24, 2016

Imagine being 29 years old and unable to leave your country. Iranian Nassim Soleimanpour is a conscientious objector who refused to take part in military service, mandatory for all Iranian men. Soleimanpour turned his isolation to his advantage with a wild, utterly original play, an absurdist adventure that blends comedy and drama. In White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, he distills the experience of an entire generation born amid the hardship of the Iran-Iraq war -- computer-literate, well-informed young people who have never known an Iran other than the Islamic Republic. With no director, no set, and a different guest performer each night, this play is performed by distinct local actors reading a script they see for the first time as they step onstage in front of a live audience. Using a menagerie of allegorical animals, the play is "not about Iran," but grapples with the social phenomena of power, obedience, and manipulation. Will you participate? Will you be manipulated? Will you listen? Will you really listen? White Rabbit Red Rabbit performs April 7-24, 2016. All shows at Mellon Square Park, 1529 -540 Smithfield St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Thurs - Sun., 8 p.m.; Industry Night, Monday April 11; All Tickets are Pay What You Desire; Tickets & Info: 12peerstheater.org.

The Birds
By Conor McPherson
From a short story by Daphne du Maurier
August 4-21, 2016

Directed by Vince Ventura Daphne du Maurier's short story, also the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's classic film, is boldly adapted by Conor McPherson -- a gripping, unsettling, and moving look at human relationships in the face of societal collapse. In an isolated house, strangers Nat and Diane take shelter from relentless masses of attacking birds. They find relative sanctuary but not comfort or peace; there's no electricity, little food, and a nearby neighbor may still be alive and watching them. Another refugee, the young and attractive Julia, arrives with some news of the outside world, but her presence also brings discord. Their survival becomes even more doubtful when paranoia takes hold of the makeshift fortress -- an internal threat to match that of the birds outside. The Birds performs August 4-21, 2016. Location: TBA. Thurs - Sun., 8 p.m.; Industry Night, Monday August 8; All Tickets are Pay What You Desire. Tickets & Info: 12peerstheater.org.
