Hailed by Charles Isherwood of The New York Times as a "spoof of children's theater with some truly funny songs and endearingly loopy performances from a cast of just three," OEDIPUS FOR KIDS - a sold out hit at the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival - is proud to announce two regional productions - at Nearly Naked Theatre (Phoenix, AZ) and Renegade Theatre (Orlando, FL) - in anticipation of an upcoming off-Broadway production. More information on the NY run will be announced shortly.

OEDIPUS FOR KIDS - the very adult musical - will run August 20th-September 10th at The Little Theatre at Phoenix Theatre and September 9th-17th at Breakthrough Theatre in Orlando.

Tickets in Phoenix can be purchased by visiting http://nearlynakedtheatre.org/ and tickets in Orlando can be purchased by calling (407) 920-4034.First premiered in NYC as a Next Link Selection during the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival, where it sold out its run before extending and selling out again, rights for OEDIPUS FOR KIDS were acquired by Samuel French Inc. and productions were mounted in Asheville, North Carolina, and in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Current Productions of the musical feature a revised book and score in anticipation of an upcoming off-Broadway run.

Featuring a book by Gil Varod, Robert J. Saferstein, and Kimberly Patterson, music by Robert J. Saferstein, and lyrics by Gil Varod, OEDIPUS FOR KIDS is the hysterical journey of a three-person arts-in-education troupe attempting to stage a child-friendly version of Sophicles' classic "Oedipus Rex."

Unfolding in real-time, OEDIPUS FOR KIDS turns the audience into attendees of the latest performance of the Fuzzy Duck Theatre Company dedicated to performing the classics for children. After their success with "Uncle Tommy's Cabin" and "Titus Andronicus Bakes a Cake," the Fuzzy Ducks have now set their eyes on the famed Greek tragedy by Sophocles. Meanwhile backstage, Fuzzy Ducks founder Alistair has just ended a bitter divorce with longtime troupe member Catalina, who suspects something is up when she learns that tonight's audience includes the executives from sponsor Beanz! Coffee for Kids. Evan, a recent hire (and heir to the Beanz! Coffee fortune), plays Oeddy, "a little boy a lot like you." As the off-stage disagreements between the company members escalate and spill onstage, what was once a misguided-albeit-educational theatrical experience, swiftly spirals into a Charybdis-like whirlpool of suck. With songs like "A Little Complex," "What's It Like When Ya Get The Plague?" and "My Lover Is My Husband Is My Son," you'll be glad that you left the kids at home, because this musical should in no way be viewed by children if you love them at all.
