Greasepaint Youtheatre presents PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, MAY 5 - 14, 2017, a playful prequel to the Peter Pan story.Rick Elice (JERSEY BOYS, and the musical THE ADDAMS FAMILY) brings to life the Tony-winning story of Peter Pan before he became the boy who wouldn't grow up. Elice adapted a children's book series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson into a high seas adventure for the stage, complete with an unwilling band of orphans, Molly, a courageous young girl, and a mysterious cargo onboard the Neverland. The ship is taken over by pirates and the children use their guile and a little magic to keep the treasure out of the pirates' hands. High seas pursuit, hurricanes, mermaids and shipwrecks make for a breathtaking journey. It's all brought to life by a handful of actors who create a story with over a hundred characters.

Director Maureen Watson first saw Peter and the Starcatcher with its original cast in the 2012 Broadway production. The audience's sheer enjoyment of the onstage shenanigans reminded Watson of "the old Carol Burnett shows when Harvey Korman and Tim Conway would crack everyone up". With such a great amount of fun to be had by actors and audience alike, Watson knew that "it would be a hoot to direct". Many of the lead roles in the Greasepaint Youtheatre's production are being played by high school seniors. These actors have been doing shows with the theatre for years, and this, the last show of the 2016-17 season, is their farewell performance at Greasepaint. The company's focus on building artists and audiences of tomorrow comes to fruition in this bittersweet farewell performance for these graduating students.

The thrilling adventure of Peter and the Starcatcher brings artists and audiences into a playground populated with marauding pirates and clever children. But more to the point, the play brings to life the limitless possibilities of resourcefulness through youth, creativity, and a little magic. Greasepaint Youtheatre gives audiences and actors alike the chance to revel in the adventure of imagination.
