Arizona Theatre Company Sets Student Summer Programs
Arizona high school students can experience nearly every aspect of theatre production - from acting, voice, dance and movement to playwriting, theatrical design, directing and sets, lighting, costumes and sound - during Arizona Theatre Company's five-week theatre-training programs, Summer on Stage and Summer Backstage.
The programs run concurrently and collaboratively from June 23 - July 25, Monday through Friday, culminating in performances during the final week at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave. Classes are taught by ATC staff, local theatre artists and theatre teachers.
During the first three weeks of Summer on Stage in studio classrooms at the University of Arizona Theater Arts Building, students will spend their days in morning classes and afternoon rehearsals for the summer productions. Full-day rehearsals take place the final two weeks of the program in the ATC rehearsal hall and onstage at the Temple of Music and Art, where technical elements will be incorporated.
Students enrolled in the Summer Backstage program, also led by ATC staff and professionals theatre designers and technicians, will help design and prepare lighting, sound, sets, props and costumes for the summer-ending production, for which they will serve as members of the backstage crew.
Registration deadline is May 31. Registration forms are available online at www.arizonatheatre.org. A non-refundable $50 registration fee is due when the forms are submitted. Tuition -- $850 for Summer on Stage and $350 for Summer Backstage - can be paid in full or in installments.
Limited scholarship funds are available. Application forms also are available online.
