STAGE TUBE: THE LAST 5 YEARS' Nikki Gil, Joaquin Valdes in Action

Manila, Philippines--9 Works Theatrical, whose fifth anniversary offering is playfully tied up with a new production of Jason Robert Brown's cult two-hander musical THE LAST 5 YEARS, has just released a short-video feature showing actors Nikki Gil, who plays Cathy Hiatt, a struggling theater actress, and Joaquin Valdes, who plays Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, perform excerpts from the musical on stage Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at RCBC Plaza in Makati City.

The short-video feature, titled "The Last 5 Years Manila Webisode," also includes behind-the-scenes interviews with the two actors, stage director Robbie Guevara, executive producer Santi Santamaria, scenographer Mio Infante, and musical director (instrumentation) Joseph Tolentino.

THE LAST 5 YEARS, which won the Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics in 2002, explores the five-year relationship between Jamie and Cathy. Cathy's story is told in reverse chronological order; her opening scene begins at the end of her marriage with Jamie. Meanwhile, Jamie's story is told in (normal) chronological order; his opening scene begins when he first met Cathy. These characters do not directly interact except for the wedding scene ("The Next 10 Minutes") right smack in the middle of the show as Jamie and Cathy's timelines intersect.

THE LAST 5 YEARS will run on weekends, until Sunday, August 31, 2014.
