Tony Lo Bianco to Bring One-Man-Show to Philadelphia, 3/26

On March 26, the Philly POPS presents celebrated actor Tony Lo Bianco in his five-time Emmy Award winning, one-man Broadway show, The Little Flower at Prince Theater. In the play that Lo Bianco wrote, directed and stars in, he portrays Fiorello H. La Guardia on his last day in 1945 as mayor of New York City.

Lo Bianco's mesmerizing performance-equal parts educational, inspirational and comedic-presents a fascinating look at the life and career of Mayor La Guardia.

Lo Bianco is best known on screen for his performances as Sal Boca in the Academy Award winning film The French Connection with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider, as Ray Fernandez in cult classic The Honeymoon Killers, and many other films alongside fellow celebrated actors such as Alec Baldwin, Clint Eastwood, Richard Gere, Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Burt Reynolds, Sylvester Stallone and Christopher Walken.

Prior to the performance, on March 10, Lo Bianco will visit local high schools Roman Catholic and CAPA in support of the POPS In Schools program, which supplements and enhances music and performing arts programs in Philadelphia schools and particularly, those in the All-City Jazz program, including CAPA. Lo Bianco will address classes of Italian, History, Theater, Production and Film students. The POPS has made available a limited number of tickets to the performance for interested students.

The career of actor Tony Lo Bianco is distinguished as much by its depth and variety as by the skills and gifts Mr. Lo Bianco brings to his work. He has appeared in over 100 films, television programs, and stage performances, both on-screen and off as a writer, director, and producer.

Mr. Lo Bianco co-founded the Triangle Theater and served as artistic director for six years, during which time lighting designer Jules Fisher, playwright Jason Miller, and actor Roy Scheider, as well as many others, performed there.

Mr. Lo Bianco served as the National Spokesperson for the Order Sons of Italy. His many humanitarian efforts have earned multiple awards, including the Eleanora Duse Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts; Man of the Year for Outstanding Contributions to the Italian-American Community from the Police Society of New Jersey; a Man of the Year Award from the State of New Jersey Senate; a Lifetime Entertainment Award from the Columbus Day Parade Committee; the 1997 Golden Lion Award; and the Humanitarian Award of the Boys' Town of Italy, and the Ellis Island Medal of honor. He is a member of the Italian American National Hall of Fame and just this year received the Louis Prima Arts and Entertainment Award.
