THE JOST PROJECT Returns to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 5/9

The J?st Project looks forward to returning to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the location where they launched their recording, "Can't Find My Way Home" (Dot Time Records). As part of the Art After 5 series, the Philly-based band will perform on Friday, May 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The band is made up of internationally renowned vibraphonist Tony Miceli, vocalist/harmonicist Paul Jost, bassist Kevin MacConnell and drummer Charlie Patierno. This event is free with museum admission, $20; seniors $18; youth, 13 to 18, and students with valid ID $14; children 12 and under free. A lot has happened for The J?st Project since their CD has been released. Playing classic rock in a jazz format, their goal is to reach new generations for jazz. Included in their performance will be such songs as "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith); "Kashmir" (Led Zeppelin); "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" (Iron Butterfly), "What a Day For a Day Dream" (John Sebastian; Loving Spoonful) and many more. Crowds have been cheering at their unexpected interpretations of the music. In addition to playing in the Philadelphia and Atlantic City areas, they performed at The Iridium in New York and have been invited back. They are honored that two selections from their recording are included in a new BFM Jazz Digital CD called "Experience This: Reinterpreted Rock Classics" and that their music has consistently charted in Jazz Week and been picked up by college and jazz radio stations.

The band has been getting raves on both sides of the Atlantic. About the band:

Tony Miceli:

Tony Miceli is a legendary vibraphone player who performs worldwide. He has played in countless jazz and percussion festivals, concert stages, jazz clubs and colleges with numerous artists including Ken Peplowski, Gerald Veasley, Diane Monroe, John Blake, John Swana, Joe Magnarelli, Steve Slagle and others. A resident of Philadelphia, recordings include a self-titled compilation CD, Looking East with the Philly 5; On a Sweet Note with Gerald Veasley and the Electric Mingus Project; Band Shapes with French pianist Olivier Hutman; Monkadelphia; Music From the Inside Out, a companion CD for the documentary showcasing the Philadelphia Orchestra, Concord Jazz recording artist and guitarist Jimmy Bruno; excerpt this! with Adam Unsworth, French hornist with The Philadelphia Orchestra; and, Thelonius 4 Meets Tony Miceli. Tony conducts master classes at the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music and gives private instruction. He is on the faculty at University of the Arts and Temple University. In addition Tony runs a website www.vibesworkshop.com which is an online school of music for the vibraphone and boasts over 3000 members. He serves as a consultant and teacher to music and arts organizations.

Paul Jost:

Paul is a rare talent - an eclectic artist with great skill as a vocalist, drummer, composer and arranger. On May 6, 2014, his solo recording, "Breaking Through" is being released by Dot Time Records where he breaks through traditional boundaries and conventions by producing a unique and innovative recording. He is a prolific composer, writing over 40 CD's, including the highly acclaimed song "Book Faded Brown", that has been recorded by The Band, Carl Perkins and Rick Danko and is included in his new recording. His compositions for major music libraries are heard daily in over 750 markets throughout the United States, and, he has composed for Canon Pictures and NBC-TV's Emmy Award-winning series "Special Treat". His vocals, harmonica and/or drumming can be heard on national jingles as well. Paul is proud to have served as musical director at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City as well as for Morgana King. The list of artists he has performed or recorded with is extensive including Billy Eckstine, Mark Murphy, George Mesterhazy, Ann Hampton Calloway, Sylvia Simms, Bobby Scott, Sivuca, Dr. John, Bucky Pizzarelli, Teo Macero, Bobby Tucker, Pee Wee Ellis, John Phillips, Mike Abene and many more. Paul's recent work includes CD's with Antfarm Quartet - Dialogues Pt. 2 and Live @ The Colony Theater,(Dreambox Media); Tim Lekan & Paul Jost - Side by Side (Independent), Marc Adler and Paul Jost - Silver Whispers (Arabesque), Andy Lalasis - Fret Not (Independent). Paul teaches college students at University of the Arts, West Chester University and other music institutions.

Kevin MacConnell:

Bassist Kevin MacConnell's impressive career has taken him from playing with orchestras on concert stages to Broadway shows, from numerous recording studios to the sets of television shows, from jazz festivals to great clubs. This year, as a member of the DePue Brothers Band, he has toured America. In addition, throughout his career, he has performed with such jazz legends as Mel Torme, Nancy Wilson, Billy Eckstine, Joe Williams and tenor saxophonist, Ernie Watts and made national and international television appearances/performances with Diahann Carroll, Marilyn McCoo, Merv Griffin, Natalie Cole and opera diva, Denyce Graves. Highly respected on the jazz scene, Kevin performed recently with John Blake and Jimmy Bruno. Recent recording credits include When It's Christmas Time with the DePue Brothers Band, From All Sides and, also, Profile, Larry McKenna; Earth Tones', Power of Ten; 'Unencumbered', Mark Cosgrove and Director of the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts, Charles Gilbert's prerecorded productions, "Harold and the Purple Crayon" and "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble". Dedicated to younger musicians, Kevin is a teacher at University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Charlie Patierno:

Charlie Patierno is a full time drummer, producer, composer, and educator. His drumming career has taken him from the Kennedy Center in DC to the Nokia Theatre in Times Square NYC; from the Vans Warped tour to the London and Paris Jazz Festivals. Patierno frequently travels the USA and internationally. Patierno is currently the tour/recording drummer in Jef Lee Johnson Trio, the drummer for Ricky Radio and drummer/producer for Tigersapien and also works with many other bands, musicians and artists in Philly/NYC area. He also is a teacher, working one on one with students.
