PINKALICIOUS Comes to the Walnut Street Theatre, 3/29-4/19

Kids and their favorite grown-ups will be seeing perfectly pink with WST for Kids' production of Pinkalicious, the Musical. Victoria and Elizabeth Kann's popular children's book comes to life in this hour-long musical adaptation of Pinkalicious performed LIVE at Walnut Street Theatre, March 29 through April 19, 2014. Due to popular demand, two performances have already been added (April 13 and 19) to this extended run!

Pinkalicious Pinkerton eats, sleeps, and sings pink! When Pinkalicious and her brother Peter bake the most pinkerrific cupcakes, Pinkalicious can't get enough of them. Now she is turning...pink! Dr. Wink says Pinkalicious has pinkititis and she needs to eat green foods ...yuck! Watch as Pinkalicious and her brother work together to cure pinkititis and learn the power of family. Boys and girls will love the adventures of Pinkalicious and her brother Peter!

Pinkalicious, the Musical is based on the award-winning books written by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, with illustrations by Victoria Kann. The inspiration for the books came from Victoria's two daughters who love cupcakes and the color pink. "Pinkalicious is a very normal little girl who has wonderful, magical things happen to her," Victoria noted. "I want children to feel empowered to know they are beautiful on the inside, to feel the courage to express themselves even if it goes against their peers, to be creative and use their imaginations, and to know that sweetness comes from the inside."

Director Allison Heishman is excited to make her Walnut directorial debut with this playful production. Heishman spoke about her excitement surrounding Pinkalicious stating, "there's something for everyone in this show. At the end of the day there's a great lesson about acceptance and the love of family." Heishman also noted she "can't wait to work with the design team, the artistic staff and the excellent cast to make this show happen." A former Walnut Street Theatre Apprentice, the Philadelphia-based director returns after having most recently directed two World Premieres for Azuka Theatre.

Scenic Designer Robert J. Martin (Alexander) will take the colorful collaged world of Pinkalicious from the page to the stage, with inspiration from Victoria Kann's illustrations. Joining Martin, the Walnut is delighted to welcome back Music and Vocal Director Mark Yurkanin, Choreographer Samuel Antonio Reyes, Sound Designer Ryan Peavey and Lighting Designer Mark Grady, after most recently working on Alexander and A Christmas Carol. Walnut Costume Apprentices, Molly Weeden and Katie Yamaguchi, will bring pops of pink to the stage with their bright costume designs.

Returning to the Walnut stage as the Pinkertons, following performances in this season's A Christmas Carol, are: Sarah Biddle of Hockessin, DE as Pinkalicious; Max Cove of Voorhees, NJ as her brother Peter; Angelica Jackson of Wilmington, DE as their mother and Nichalas Parker of Washington, DC as their father. Former WST Acting Apprentice Marissa Barnathan of Havertown, PA returns as Dr. Wink and Allison.

WST for Kids' is celebrated for its commitment to encouraging parents (and grandparents) to read to their kids. Families can read together, and then discover a whole new level of imagination when they see the shows live onstage.

Students are also in for a sweet treat when they visit the Walnut on school trips! Every year thousands of students get to experience live theatre for the first time when their teachers bring them to WST for Kids' productions. Students read the book in class and then come see the story burst to life on stage. Study guides are available for teachers on the Walnut's website.

Pinkalicious, the Musical is an ideal outing for every elementary classroom and family with weekday and weekend matinee performances March 29, April 2, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 19.
